Somewhere between 5 to 20 percent of the women who become pregnant while using fertility drugs carry more than one baby.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) for Male Infertility Treatments

Infertility affects about twelve percent of couples of childbearing age. Infertility is not just a womans concern. Moreover, sometimes the problem is mistakenly attributed to the woman, especially in cases of a positive pregnancy test with a later bleeding or miscarriage. According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, one third of infertility cases are due to male factor, one third are attributed to female factor, and the remaining third are unexplained and typically involve problems on both sides.

In infertility cases where there is a question about sperms ability to fertilize the egg, patients can often resort to IntraCytoplasmic Sperm Injection or ICSI. In general, couples can use this microsurgical procedure for the following male infertility problems:

low sperm counts or low sperm motility

high levels of sperm antibodies preventing conception caused by vasectomy reversal

previous IVF cycles without successful fertilization or implantation

blockage in reproductive tract that prevents sperm from making its way out

All men undergoing fertility testing will be checked for hormonal imbalances that could be contributing to their infertility. One important hormone necessary for proper sexual functioning in men is testosterone. When a man is found to have a testosterone deficiency, it can signal a common disorder known as hypogonadism.

What Does Testosterone Do? Testosterone, often referred to as the male hormone although females do produce small amounts of the hormone as well, is a hormone that is produced in the testicles. It is responsible for the growth and development of the sex and reproductive organs in men. Fertilizer ratios indicate the % of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, by weight, in a particular fertilizer. Ratios are always given as the % nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). For example, a 10-10-20 fertilizer contains 10% nitrogen, 10% phosphorus, and 20% potassium. This means that 100 pounds of this fertilizer will actually contain 10 pounds of nitrogen (10% of 100 pounds), 10 pounds of phosphorus (10% of 100 pounds), and 20 pounds of potassium (20% of 100 pounds). Fertilizer is commonly available in the following ratios: 10-20-20, 15-15-15, 10-10-10, 5-10-5, 5-10-10, 10-20-10, 20-10-10, and 46-0-0.

Nitrogen is critical for the maximum growth of cool season grasses in pastures. An adequate supply of nitrogen is associated with vigorous vegetative growth and a plants dark green color. Reduced plant growth and a pale green or yellow color characterize nitrogen deficiency.
